During the autumn term, our topic will be the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.  We will learn about the daily lives of these groups and how they have influenced our lives today.  As part of this topic we will be visiting York.

Reading

It is extremely important that children read regularly in school and at home.  Please read with your child and ask them questions about their book.  There are questions in children’s planners to help you see the types of questions you should ask.  Our class novels that we will use in class this term are Viking Boy and Anglo-Saxon Boy.

Homework

Each week children will get English and a piece of maths homework. This homework is ongoing.  The maths and English will be given on a Friday and needs to be returned on Wednesday, where children will be tested on their spellings. Additionally, we have an online learning platform (Class Dojo) where you and your child has an account to access online resources.

Swimming

As part of the Year 5 curriculum, children will attend swimming lessons every Wednesday throughout the term.

On swimming days, children will need to bring the following items into school:

  • Appropriate swimwear

  • A towel

  • A swimming hat, if they have long hair

We will travel by bus to the Dolphin Centre in the afternoon and return to school before the end of the school day.

Swimming is an important part of the primary school curriculum, and we aim for all children to be able to swim 25 metres confidently by the end of primary school.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that your child brings everything they need for their swimming lessons each week.
