Welcome to Little Learners
At Mount Pleasant Primary School, we provide a kind, nurturing and welcoming environment where every child is valued as an individual. Our highly skilled staff work closely with children and their families to ensure a positive and successful start to their educational journey, supporting children to settle, build confidence and develop a love of learning.
Our curriculum focuses on the three Prime Areas of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and Physical Development. To support children's communication skills, adults engage children in meaningful conversations throughout the day, modelling correct speech and language. Singing songs, sharing nursery rhymes, and enjoying simple stories and books are key parts of our daily routine. We also have a Book of the Week, which links to themes and experiences across the year, helping to develop children's language, understanding and enjoyment of stories. To encourage a love of reading at home, parents are invited each week to choose a book with their child to share together.
Children are given lots of opportunities for imaginative and role play, helping them to develop friendships, learn to share and take turns, and build important social skills. We place great importance on helping children become increasingly independent through everyday routines such as washing their hands, managing their belongings and learning to put on their own coats and waterproof clothing.
Learning extends beyond the classroom and into our outdoor environment, where children explore the world around them through first-hand experiences. They enjoy looking for living things, experiencing different types of weather throughout the seasons, and investigating natural materials through mud and water play. These rich outdoor experiences help children to develop curiosity, confidence and a deeper understanding of the world.
Physical development is a key priority in our provision, as we know that confidence in both fine and gross motor skills supports all areas of learning. We make this fun and engaging through our weekly themed activities:

Reading
In our EYFS classes at Mount Pleasant Primary School, books are at the centre of our teaching and learning. We know how important it is to have a love of books and so we encourage this from the very beginning. We offer a class library service, have inviting reading areas where the children can relax with a book and follow a book-led curriculum. The books have been carefully chosen to interest and excite our children and so they may change with different groups of children. They are selected to match a common theme and allow for teaching about the different celebrations and events that occur through the year.
